President Obama Returns to Ice Cream Cone Mid-East Policy

After June 12 of 2009, Iranian citizens took to the streets to peacefully protest the re-election of President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and were met with a brutal show of force by the secret police.  On June 20th one of the protesters, Neda Soltan was murdered in cold blood and Neda became the symbol of Iran’s Green Revolution.

In contrast newly elected President Barack Obama sat silent and said nothing in support of Iranians quest for freedom and democracy. Instead he was photographed taking his family out for ice cream.

When the going gets tough, head out for some ice cream

Since then, whenever there are people risking their lives for freedom in an oppressive Islamist middle eastern country, look to the nearest ice cream parlor for Obama’s reaction. That smile is for ice cream and not for those who are fighting for liberty; this President can only vote “Present”.

When it was politically expedient, Obama lauded the “Arab Spring” of 2011, even claiming credit for it. When protests began in Tahrir Square in Cairo, both he and Hillary Clinton quickly threw Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak under the bus, telling him to relinquish power. Suddenly President Obama regained his voice and promoted a peaceful transition in Egypt.

On June 24th of this year, Mohamed Morsi representing the Muslim Brotherhood, was elected President of Egypt. Most Washington wonks expressed concern that this would mean that Egypt would become another extreme Islamist state.

The Obama White House extolled the election as a great example of democracy, even downplaying the Brotherhood’s murderous past. Director of National Intelligence James Clapper, stated that the Muslim Brotherhood was now “largely secular in its orientation.”

Within days of assisting in brokering a cease-fire between Israel and Gaza, Morsi, declared himself and the two legislative bodies dominated by his Muslim Brotherhood to be above the reach of the nation’s judicial branch and the constitution. There are real fears that this is the first step in forcing Egypt to be ruled by Sharia law.

President Obama has said nothing, not one word of condemnation on Morsi’s illegal grab for power, but then Barack has been fairly cavalier himself, when it comes to respecting the U.S. Constitution.

Iran is edging closer to having nuclear weapons, Syria’s government is killing it’s people with impunity and Egypt looks to be the next Islamist state. Where is President Obama on all this? Playing golf for the 107th time and then directing his 24 car motorcade to the nearest ice cream parlor for a triple cone.

Obama and his family will be heading off to their annual Hawaiian vacation on December 17th and while there, expect lots of photos of him enjoying his favorite shaved ice.

Contrast those happy family Christmas photo-ops of licking ice cream, with our fiscal troubles, Hamas firing rockets into Israel, Iran going nuclear, Syria’s thousands of dead civilians, Egyptians being robbed of a democratic voice and the murders of four U.S. citizens in Benghazi, Libya.

That’s who this nation has re-elected for another four years of impotence and abrogation of responsibility; our ice cream eating failure, the 45th President of the United States, Barack Obama.
