Obama’s Action on Libya — War Is Not The Answer

I long for the days when the security of the United States was defined by the fact our military could strike any country any time with impunity if they dared to threaten our existence or harmed a U.S. citizen. We still have that capability, but President Barack Obama is determined to end this nations superiority and our leadership as THE super power.

After dithering for more than two weeks on how to deal with the civil war in Libya, Obama finally announced that the United States would participate in the enforcement of a no fly zone with a coalition of nations. This decision was not made by Obama in conjunction with the U.S. Congress as the Constitution states, but through the United Nations; then he and his family jetted off to South America.

This is a sad moment in U.S. history, where we have a President who has relinquished our power to the inept and corrupt United Nations. Obama is so weak that in his speech he stated, “Today I authorized the Armed Forces of the United States to begin a limited military action in Libya in support of an international effort to protect Libyan civilians.”

Obama is so determined to appease his left-wing base, he repeated this promise, “And as I said yesterday, we will not — I repeat — we will not deploy any U.S. troops on the ground.”

Then there is the question of exactly what this mission is? Obama has stated several times that Gadhafi has to go, but then he reversed course by saying we have to protect the Libyan civilians from slaughter. Is this regime change or a humanitarian mission?

Through out the uprising against Momar Gadhafi, the administration has sent mixed messages. Secretary of State, Hilary Clinton has been the most outspoken about the need for Gadhafi’s exit and the institution of a no fly zone. Contradicted by the Defense Secretary, Robert Gates, who implied that the U.S. military is just winging it and indicating that we are ready to hand over command and control to NATO, yesterday?

In truth the United States is the only country that has the expertise and equipment to command this complex operation and already NATO has absconded from taking over. Obama’s calculus is to wash his hands of his “War on Libya” as fast as he can, because the only thing Obama cares about is himself and his re-election in 2012.

I am certainly not surprised at Obama’s dithering ineptitude and weak stance in U.S. foreign policy. The hand writing was on the wall years ago and just for historical purposes here is what was written in Time Magazine on December 18, 2007, long before Obama was elected President.

“Foreign policy experience — or rather his lack of it — has been one of the chief arguments used against Barack Obama in his run for the Democratic Presidential nomination. His rival Hillary Clinton herself has criticized Obama sharply for his suggestion that the four years he spent living in Indonesia as a child helped him develop a world view and gives him credence on the world stage. “Voters will judge whether living in a foreign country at the age of 10 prepares one to face the big, complex international challenges the next President will face,”

Ironic words by Hillary Clinton, that has been reinforced by her public statement that she wants out of Obama’s cabinet ASAP.

But the clincher is Obama’s own words, proving that this elitist, self puffed up no-nothing really believes his own press releases, “The day I’m inaugurated, not only will the country look at itself differently, but the world will look at America differently,” Obama told an audience in Audubon, Iowa, November 2007, “because not only do I have the experience of working at the highest levels of government on foreign policy but also because the leaders of others counties will know that I’ve got family members that live in small villages in Africa that are poor so I know what they’re going through.”

The White House has operated as the defacto “Obama 2012 Campaign Headquarters” since his inauguration, so every speech, appearance and policy decision is made from the virtual campaign trail instead of the Oval Office. We have stupidly elected a community organizer who thinks he is a High School Class President, instead of President of the United States.
