President Obama’s Hazy, Crazy Days Of Summer

Sunday, August 23, 2009

Updated below: 8/24/09

President Obama has moved from the White House bubble to the Martha’s Vineyard bubble as he continues to campaign for government run health care. His popularity is in free fall, dropping more than 42 points since his inauguration as tracked by the Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll. Sunday showed it at -14, on January 21 it was at +28.

Maybe the President should stop putting his mug all over television and just lead. Mark Knowler of CBS News, says that President Obama has now delivered well over 200 televised speeches since January 20th, 2009.

Obama’s summertime blues began when he was pushing Congress to desperately pass the House version, a 1018 page monstrosity that was written entirely by committees under the influence of House Speaker, Nancy Pelosi before their August recess and the President’s family vacation. Nothing like carefully considering the legislative process here, instead it’s rush, rush, rush.

When it was obvious that no one wanted a vote on this clunker, the White House does what it can only  do well, mount another blitzkrieg campaign. Every network and cable show had someone from the White House preaching the talking points, HHS Secretary, Kathleen Sebelius, Senior Advisor to the President, David Axelrod, Christina Romer, Linda Douglass.

The Campaigner in Chief himself criss crossed the nation, speaking at four very controlled Town Halls. But the master stumbled saying the “public option, whether we have it or we don’t have it, is not the entirety of health care reform.” Oops, Axelrod rallied his White House hacks to do damage control.

“…the problem is not just that health care is going down, but that in the process the administration has tarnished the blue-chip Obama brand, and we are in a sort of emperor-has-no-clothes moment. Take away the rhetoric and charisma, and this same absence of preparation, professional research, and focused public defense seems to apply to almost everything Obama has offered, from more stimulus and more deficit spending to cash for clunkers and cap and trade.” Victor Davis Hanson

The American people will take only so much before rising up and letting Washington know how we feel. Obama can call out his goons in the SEIU, AFL-CIO, ACORN  and even AARP to pack town hall meetings and scare constituents from speaking. But it isn’t working. The “Public Option” is dead on arrival.

This is one Obama campaign that has failed and the voters should not forget this in 2010 and 2012.
