Tuesday, May 20, 2008

FINAL UPDATE: 05/22/08: ALL IMMIGRATION LANGUAGE HAS BEEN REMOVED FROM THE IRAQ WAR FUNDING BILL!!

Thank you to all who called and once again the people have spoken.

UPDATE 05/21/08: Senator Jeff Sessions pushed and had the Amnesty language removed from the Iraq Supplemental Bill!

The H-2B Visa Worker increase is still in the bill — SO KEEP CALLING!!

The Senate started debate Tuesday on the Iraq Supplemental Spending bill — a bill the President would never veto. Stuck deep inside it is a nasty Amendment crafted by Democratic Senator Dianne Feinstein of California, that would give instant Amnesty to over 3 Million Illegal Alien agricultural workers and their extended families!

You must call your senator on Wednesday and tell them that this an outrage to attach the AgJOBS amnesty in this stealth move. Your Senator’s phone number is here: Senators Supporting Immigration Bill

The immigration amendments include the Feinstein AgJOBS-lite amendment, which passed by a recorded vote of 17-12; and the Mikulski H-2B amendment which would, for the next three years, exempt from the annual cap of 66,000 any H-2B workers who were admitted during the previous three years. (The impact on the numbers could be exponential–they could rise from 66,000 in FY 2008 to over 400,000 by FY2011.)

The AgJOBS amendment would require the Department of Homeland Security to grant emergency agricultural worker status (i.e., amnesty) and provides a 5-year visa for up to 1.35 million illegal agricultural workers but the cap of 1.35 million does not include spouses and children, who would bring the total amnesty to about 3 million.

CALL YOUR SENATOR AND TELL THEM YOU ARE AGAINST AgJOBS Amendment SA 4786
