So Pretty But So Stupid

Saturday, March 1, 2008

What a disappointment to discover that this year’s Best Actress Oscar winner, Marion Cotillard is such an idiot. Her beauty and breathless acceptance speech showed promise — but after all she is just an actress and stupidity should be expected.

Cotillard Oscar

The 32-year-old French star has swept this year’s best actress awards, also receiving a Bafta, Golden Globe and a César for her performance as singer Edith Piaf in La Vie en Rose.

A television interview surfaced on the internet where Miss Cotillard questioned the New York terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, and the 1969 moon landing.

“I think we’re lied to about a number of things,” she said, singling out September 11.

Referring to the two passenger jets flown into the World Trade Center, Miss Cotillard said: “We see other towers of the same kind being hit by planes, are they burned? There was a tower, I believe it was in Spain, which burned for 24 hours. It never collapsed. None of these towers collapsed. And there [New York], in a few minutes, the whole thing collapsed.”

Turning to America’s space program, she said: “Did a man really walk on the moon? I saw plenty of documentaries on it, and I really wondered. And in any case I don’t believe all they tell me, that’s for sure.”

Too bad she’s as dumb as a brick.

Miss Cotillard, who was born and brought up in Paris, made the comments on Paris Première – Paris Dernière (Paris First – Paris Last), a program first broadcast a year ago.

True to the Hollywood mold, she is also an environmental activist, who once worked as a spokeswoman for Greenpeace. Dumber by the minute.

The original interview, in French is available here.

    she has her own opinion on some issues, and has the very right to express this opinion, just as anybody else; do you remember, a proud citizen of the USA? this is one of the those human rights, see the 1st. Amendment;

    one has different view of the world as me, so “he is a dumb” – thats very interesting way of thinking

    lets be a proud US citizen, but please do tolerate different opinions…

    have a nice day

    P.S. I do apologize myself for eventual mistakes, english is not my native language

    Certainly people have a right to hold opinions as they see fit, Marian. It’s just that Cotillard’s are disproved by the facts. It’s not because her views are different, it’s because they aren’t supported by any logical thinking. By expressing these views, even though it was a year ago, she’s messed up her future career. I’d call that pretty dumb.

    another point of view – if somebody has different meaning on some issue as me, than much better response is to discuss the issue (which of course is not quite possible in this case) and show him/her on behalf of arguments, that he/she is not right, not just declare him/her for a dumb;

    I´m a teacher: just imagine yourself a student shows some very strange opinion on something which is pretty evident false. I can noways declare him simple for a dumb, only reasonable solution is to make him clear he is not right, because of this or that…
