Petraeus Hearings — Politics Over Truth
Yesterday, September 11th was a tough somber day. My reflections on what happened six years ago and how this nation has moved forward so bravely with strength and conviction was soured by the political theatrics of our Congress. They just had to pick September 10th and more importantly the 11th as the days to interrogate General David Petraeus and Ambassador Ryan Crocker on the situation in Iraq.
These fat elitists are out of touch with the people. Their pomposity, arrogance and stupidity is apparent — yet they clung to the debate on Immigration in June and now used September 11th as the day to ridicule our brave men and women in the military.
Six years ago they stood outside on the steps of the Capitol Building and sang the national anthem, but yesterday they used the Congressional Hearing Room to make Presidential candidate stump speeches and malign Four Star General Petraeus.
The disgusting full page ad by Moveon.org in the New York Times “General Petraeus or General Betray Us?”, formed the talking points of the Democrats and some Republicans. They have stuck to their anti-war stance since last November and nothing that Patraeus or Crocker said would change their opinions.
The Presidential candidate hopefuls; Senators Clinton, Obama and McCain used their time to create sound bites for the evening news.
Hillary Clinton led off by lecturing Patraeus, that his report, “requires the willing suspension of disbelief.” Clinton added that he was, “the de facto spokesman for what a lot of us believe is a failed policy.” Hillary did have some kinder words when she told him, “I give you tremendous credit for presenting as positive a view of a grim reality.” Especially since he had been, “dealt a very hard hand.” Hillary Clinton pontificated for nearly eight minutes but only asked one question apiece giving Patraeus and Crocker about a minute to answer. Once again she demonstrates that political expediency is more important to her than national security.
Barack Obama cherry picked parts of his campaign speeches in ‘questioning’ the General. He used his time to criticise President Bush and “his mission” as a series of “bad options and no options”.
Senator McCain, to his credit asked numerous questions with no political rhetoric. But there were many others who slammed the General. Barbara Boxer gave a seven minute anti-war statement ending by saying the war in Iraq was the, “biggest foreign policy mistake ever.”
There was also Congressman Tom Lantos, born in Budapest Hungary, he survived Nazi occupation and a forced labour camp. He emigrated to the U.S. in 1947 and was elected to Congress in 1980. Despite surviving fascism and tyranny and prospering under U.S. freedom, Lantos hates the military and doesn’t understand why America must fight evil and terrorism.
I am disgusted by their hypocrisy, accusations and contempt they have for the United States, the Military and General Petraeus. The far left has co-opted them so badly that they no longer can remember the smoke rising from ground zero.

Does General Petraus have a private web address? No, never mind. I could be held accountable for suggesting a military coup, trials, and executions of traitors in time of war. So I won’t. That was lighthearted jest, for any moron.org reader skulking the blogs to try and point to the “fascism of the right”.
