Hillary Clinton Campaign Song is Air Canada’s Theme Music

Tuesday, June 19, 2007

Hillary Clinton’s campaign theme song announcement today got her a tremendous amount of P.R. Missed in all the hoopla is the fact that the Celine Dion song “You and I (Were Meant to Fly)” was originally written and used by Air Canada in 2004 for their national advertising campaign.

Here is what the Air Canada Press Release said 3 years ago:

MONTREAL, October 19, 2004 – CELINE DION PERFORMS THE SONG “YOU AND I…WERE MEANT TO FLY”: THEME OF AIR CANADA’S NEW ADVERTISING CAMPAIGN

Air Canada today unveiled its new advertising campaign which features the song “You and I…were meant to fly” performed by international superstar Celine Dion. Created by Montreal-based Marketel, Air Canada’s advertising agency, the television portion of the campaign consists of one 60-second and two 30-second spots, in English and French.

“This is such an exciting time for Air Canada. It is truly a privilege to share this moment with you,” said Celine Dion, wearing the stylish new Air Canada uniform as she addressed the carrier’s employees. “It’s been great
working together with you on my latest music video and an honour to perform the song, ‘You and I…were meant to fly,’ to promote Air Canada and this great country around the world.”

Did Hillary’s campaign staff do any research? In this particular time where U.S. nationalism is on the front burner, why pick a song used for Canada’s national airline, sung by Celine Dion, from Montreal Canada? (Ok, Celine was born in Charlemagne, Quebec a town located 21 miles from Montreal.)

Maybe Hillary will have another ‘conversation’ with us about her choice?
