Tom Tancredo Smacks Sanctuary Cities — Trent Lott Slaps Talk Radio

Friday, June 15, 2007

The seventh time was a charm for Rep. Tom Tancredo (R-CO) today when the U.S. House of Representatives voted to withhold federal emergency services funding for “sanctuary cities” that protect Illegal Aliens.

Tancredo was elated by its passage, which stunned critics and supporters alike. “The issue has come to fruition,” Tancredo said by cell phone after the vote. “The people of the country really have spoken. It’s a really good indicator of just how much closer to the people the House is than the Senate is.”

The House passed the amendment, 234 to 189, with 50 Democrats voting in favor. “The times, they are a changing,” said an exuberant Tancredo, who has introduced the same amendment since 2004, with far less support. “This should also serve as a warning sign to the White House and supporters of re-introducing an amnesty bill from the Senate. If that legislation makes it to the House, it is in serious trouble.”

The Amendment would prevent cities like Denver, San Francisco, Los Angeles and New York who employ a sanctuary policy for illegal aliens from receiving first responder funds, including law enforcement and terrorism prevention grants, among other programs. (Go here for a list of Sanctuary Cities)

Tancredo concluded, “If I were (Speaker of the House) Nancy Pelosi, I’d be asking if she could pass a vote on amnesty on the House side. If she lost 50 Democrats on this one, and she says she needs 70 Republicans to pass the immigration plan, this is an interesting indicator of things coming down the pike,” “The days that local officials could pander to the open borders special interests are over.”

Meanwhile on the Senate side things are getting uglier. Trent Lott (R-MS) said: “Talk radio is running America. We have to deal with that problem.” Is he suggesting that he would do the same as Hugo Chavez did in Venezuela to an opposition television station — shut down Talk Radio in America?

The best answer to Trent Lott, George Bush, Ted Kennedy and Lindsey Graham is to keep calling and let these boneheads know that Americans are running America, not the special interests, the open borders lobby or the White House!

This is a ‘feel good’ provision from Tancredo. While the bill says ‘sanctuary cities’ will get nothing, it doesn’t say what constitutes such a city.

    Plus, he’s still a nut :)

Wow, you are really going hot on this subject. Good job and good energy.

BTW, I linked to yours re: sanctuary cities (which I am ashamed to admit I didn’t know of their existence) and found the NumbersUSA site link. Great site, easy to sign up and participate. You should post that again.
