Republicans Surrender to Democrats on Immigration Bill S1348 – AMNESTY!

Thursday, May 17, 2007

I am outraged, disgusted and extremely disappointed about the Senate’s compromise bill S1348. I watched Ted Kennedy who authored the bill with Senator Jon Kyl (R-AZ) stand there with Arlen Specter (R-PA), and John McCain (R-AZ) saying: “It’s time for action, 2007 is the year we must fix our broken system. We must strike while the iron is hot,”

Traitors

The only thing that is “hot” about this is the upcoming 2008 election — they want to “solve” the illegal alien issue to get re-elected and not serve the voters. I spent two hours this morning, calling 12 senator’s offices in Washington letting them know that this bill is a disgrace and they should vote NO!

I urge you to get off your duffs and make telephone calls to your Senators to let them know that this bill doesn’t work and will undermine the security and the treasury of the United States. The bill will result in a tidal wave of immigrants through chain migration — about 100 million more poor and uneducated people within ten years! This bill will have a cost of $2 – 3 Trillion Dollars to U.S. taxpayers!

Don’t be fooled by the talking points of these selfish legislators. Here are the broad strokes of this compromise bill from NumbersUSA:

  • An immediate amnesty for nearly all 12-20 million illegal aliens who will get legal status for residence and jobs (with assurance of green cards no later than 13 years);
  • Mandatory workplace verification and some extra enforcement to try to slow the flow of the next 12 million illegal aliens enticed by the amnesty;
  • Tripling of the rate of chain migration of extended family from around 250,000 a year to around 750,000 a year for about a decade; and
  • New flows of 400,000 temporary foreign workers each year, bringing their families and having anchor babies who will be given U.S. citizenship.

The bill will probably come up for a vote on Monday, May 21st so there is time to let your Senators know how you feel about AMNESTY for the 12 to 20 million Illegal Aliens !

Sen. Jim DeMint (R-SC) reacted this way, “I hope we don’t take a thousand page bill written in secret and try to ram it through the Senate in a few days. This is a very important issue for America and we need time to debate it.

But the little we do know about the bill is troubling. According to reports, the bill contains a new ‘Z-visa’ that allows those who entered our country illegally to stay here permanently without ever returning home. This rewards people who broke the law with permanent legal status, and puts them ahead of millions of law-abiding immigrants waiting to come to America. I don’t care how you try to spin it, this is amnesty.”

Get involved and turn back this terrible legislation!

    What are you talking about? You really need to get an education on the matter and not just through out random numbers.

    What this bill does is give illegal aliens amnesty so they can work here for a certain amount of years. They will be given minimum wage paying jobs so they can send money back to their families in Mexico that live without beds, electricity, floors that are made of dirt, and all this in disease ridden environments. What kind of person lets others suffer like this? We need to help these people. By letting these people get jobs here we allow for a boost in the Mexican economy, thus slowing illegal imigration. This will not cost the US economy anything in the future because the income that these people make will still be taxed, thus helping the American government at the same time helping Mexican families that cannot afford shows, food, or water, as well as helping the Mexican Economy. Open your eyes, and stop having such a biased one sided view on this issue.

    Yes YOU ARE A MORON! The United State does not have to help Mexico or it’s citizens. I’m sure you are a member of La Raza or MECHA. U.S citizens’ WILL STOP AMNESTY and solve the Illegal Alien issue by strong enforcement and NO FREE RIDES!

    I’ve been calling and calling! Now all I can do is hope they are listening. I know one of my state’s Senators will be voting against it, but the other one is holding his cards close to his vest at this point (Max Baucus).

    How can people have such short memories?! Remember the Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986 under the Reagan administration? And IRCA granted amnesty only to between 2 and 3 million. Now they want to grant amnesty to 12 to 20 million? What’s next? 30 to 40 million? It’s insane! Not only do we need to shut this down, we also need to get congress to reduce the legal immigration levels to what it was prior to the 70’s. It must be set at a rate where immigrants can be assimilated into society without causing an undue burden on society itself.

    Oh, Mr. Youramoron… please explain to me why the Mexicans cannot better their lives in their own country? Why don’t they rid themselves of corrupt politicians and crooked police and set up their own captitalism? The answer may lie in the fact that the government has disarmed its citizens. You think?

    The text for S1348 filed with Thomas is not the text of the compromise bill the White House is endorsing. That confuses matters and makes the debate all the more difficult. This is closer to the text: http://www2.nationalreview.com/dest/2007/05/19/immigrationdraft051807.pdf .

    The following point is a technicality but words have to mean what they denote otherwise they are useless. The word “amnesty” denotes “exemption from punishment.” The bill promoted by the White House imposes an initial penalty of a $1,000 fine. That is by denotation not amnesty. It is better to argue it grants legal status to illegal immigrants if they meet certain criteria and pay the fine within a specified length of time.

    Until US entitlements are eliminated, the US needs immigrant workers to do the work US entitlement recipients refuse to do. Opposition to temporary workers misunderstands economic reality and needs. Z visa workers and temporary immigrant workers are not eligible for US entitlements.

    Chain migration is mitigated by curtailing family sponsorships. Family unification is no longer as important to immigration policy as economic benefit. The economy cannot absorb the burden of family unification.

    A rose by any other name… a matter of semantics. So if the word used is ‘fee’ in lieu of ‘fine’, does that then make it amnesty? They can’t stand and piss on my head and then try to tell me it’s only raining.

    l feel the bill should consider the unification bill which would allow resident aliens with green card who had famillies in the united states and had been deported or in the process of being deported to reunite with their families rather than than those that came here illegally. The senate is trying to impress president Bush and what l think should be done is to allow all those illegal immigrants to pay a fine of about $1,500 and be allowed to go back home and reapply for their immigrant visa and then reenter legally. The guest worker program should be allowed for 2 years and after that they have to return back to their country and reapply for immigrant visa. But if any of them fails to return back ,the govt can denied them the priviledge of becoming a legal resident.
