Rudy Giuliani & Mitt Romney Beat Back Chris Mathews

Thursday, May 3, 2007

This was the first and hopefully last time I’ll ever have to tune in to MSNBC — in order to watch the Republican presidential candidates debate. It already felt weird watching Chris Mathews moderate — he did work for Jimmy Carter so how do you really think he feels about any Republican candidate? But hats off to the Republican Party for NOT running and hiding from the obviously left leaning MSNBC. Quit the opposite from the “We Surrender” Democrats who refused to be seen on FOX News for two earlier scheduled debates.

Mitt Romney

Chris Mathews asked some pretty stupid questions — the stupidest being: “Would it be good for America to have Bill Clinton back living in the White House?” and “Would you pardon Scooter Libby?” Hey Chris, this isn’t American Idol – these are Presidential Candidates — but I don’t expect much from a guy with the words Hardball in the title of his regular show.

Rudy Giuliani

Every candidate invoked the name of Ronald Reagan into their answers many — too many times. John McCain repeated whole portions of his stump speeches and convinced me that I won’t be voting for him in the primary.

Mitt Romney was the most articulate and certainly looks and sounds “Presidential”. Rudy Giuliani has a warm and engaging speaking style. I can see him doing fireside chats from the White House — reassuring the American people. So I pick substance — Giuliani over style — Romney.

We have a long way to go before the primaries and a couple of candidates who might still jump in. One thing is clear — there will never be another Ronald Reagan and none of the candidates come even close.

The thing I liked best about President Reagan was the courage and heroism he showed on so many different occassions during WWII. Whether it was on the beaches at Anzio or in the deserts of North Africa, Ronnie typified the valor of so many of his generation. Or wait, maybe I’m confusing him with somebody else.

Pete-What beach have you stormed, unlike you I lived through many fire fights, and know that Ronaldus Reagan was one if not the finest men and Presidents ever.Millions upon millions voted for him and lined the streets to pay final respects to his funeral procession. When Jimma goes to meet his maker lets note the differance

The difference is Jimma will get a military funeral while Reagan didn’t because he was a frigging draft dodger.

FRED ’08! And Pete, look at Slick Willie. You want to talk draft dodger? RWR was keeping the home fires burning for the troops, SWC was protesting the war.
