Who’s in Denial — The Democrats or George W. Bush?
The Democrats $124 billion Iraq War Surrender Bill, laden-ed with lots of pork ($95 billion for combat operations in Iraq and Afghanistan through Sept. 30) was narrowly passed in the House on Wednesday by only 10 votes, 218 to 208. The bill requires American troops to begin withdrawing from Iraq by Oct. 1, and it’s a certainty that Bush will veto it and the House will not be able to muster the 290 votes necessary to override it. So who’s really in denial?
The leader of the Democratic majority in the US Congress, Harry Reid, “I believe … that this war is lost, and this surge is not accomplishing anything, as is shown by the extreme violence in Iraq this week,” What a pitiful and un-courageous statement. Harry Reid is in denial.
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi keeps repeating the same damn thing over and over, “Last fall, the American people voted for a new direction in Iraq,” “They made it clear that our troops must be given all they need to do their jobs, but that our troops must be brought home responsibly, safely, and soon.” Nancy Pelosi is in denial.
Democratic leaders plan to send the bill to the White House early next week — coinciding with the fourth anniversary of Mr. Bush’s May 1, 2003, speech aboard an aircraft carrier when he declared the end of major combat operations before a banner that said “Mission Accomplished.” The Democrats are so desperate, so blinded by their majority. They have abandoned the very voters who put them there and have done nothing in almost 100 days of power! The Democratic party is in denial.
Mayor Giuliani, the front running Republican presidential candidate clarified the denial of the Democratic party on The Sean Hannity Show:
“Here is the thing that the Democrats do not get and all these attacks and the things Harry Reid is doing and the Presidential candidates indicate. They do not seem to get the fact that there are people, terrorists in this world, really dangerous people that want to come here and kill us. That in fact they did come here and kill us twice and they got away with it because we were on defense because we weren’t alert enough to the dangers and the risks. … They want to take us back to not being as alert which to me will just extend this war much, much longer.”
Giuliani went on to say that the Democrats merely want to put the nation on defense and roll us back to September 10th 2001. The country needs to be on the offense he said or else we will be asleep at the switch again the next time al Queda attacks the U.S.
Rudy’s right — the Democrats are in surrender mode — that’s big time denial.
