Nancy Pelosi Gets Ugly — Again
Speaking to the press outside the White House today, House Majority Leader Nancy Pelosi and Senate Democratic Leader Harry Reid whined about their meeting with President Bush in advance of his Iraq strategy speech to the nation tonight. After stammering, dodging and ducking the question asked by a reporter if the Democrats would cutoff Iraq War funding — Pelosi said, “This was notification, not consultation.”
That’s right Nancy, read up on the Constitution, the President as Commander in Chief only has to notify the House and Senate of what his war plans are. You and your cut and run crowd can’t do jack and won’t. Teddy Kennedy can rant all he wants about refusing to let Bush increase troops in Iraq, but as a former President said, “The buck stops here.”
Time puts it this way,“By the time the Administration’s request for emergency funds for the war comes through next month, opponents of the surge will be in the position of having to vote against money for troops already in a war zone. And even the most outspoken critics of the Bush White House know that’s a losing proposition.”
The article is entitled: The Dems on Iraq: More Bark Than Bite by Massimo Calabresi. “But when it comes to actually taking any action to check Bush’s war powers, there’s not much bark to the Democrats’ bite. Which raises the question: will Democrats use their new power to rein in what they say is an overreaching president? Or will they choose to continue what proved to be a successful political strategy when they were in the minority: criticizing the administration for unpopular policies while avoiding taking action themselves that could prove equally unpopular?”
The Democratic leadership should just head back up the hill and continue to fulfill it’s first 100 hours of legislative crap. They accused the Republicans of being the “do-nothing congress” — the Democrats will prove to be the “do-little congress”.

The picture looks like American Gothic.
I don’t know what you mean when you say (Pelosi gets ugly) heavens she’s been ugly for a long time,it’s just lately become apparent.
I, unfortunately, see that you used that old (very old) “cut and run” label. I am not fully committed to staying in or getting out or somewherein the middle re: Iraq. But I do know that after all these years in Iraq I believe that it is wholly inappropriate to label some people’s idea to either redeploy or withdraw the troops from Iraq due to its own religious unrest as “cutting and running.” Your
position would never allow a withdrawal of our fighting force unless … what, exactly? Under what circumstances would you think it to be mere name-calling to allege “cut and run”? Can you imagine a realistic set of circumstances and achievements in the near future that allows the US to say we’ve done enough for this foreign country (the list is so long – Bush spoke of it tonight) that it is time to say enough. I say this with all sincerity – Do you believe it is necessary to stay there basically for a decade or more with troop numbers leaving us very thin everywhere else including the USA, spending billions more $$$ that could fund just about anything else, and suffer untold personal tragedies for our people?

(not the best writing but it’s late)
Donna-You do realize we are still in Germany,Japan,Okinawa, and most of all Serbia Croatia,Bosnia. You want to cut and run, fine but I hope you can live with the consequences of your desires.I’m Viet Nam vet,I watched the same people say the same things back then.Do you realize how many people were slaughtered because of that Decision.Look it up,then rethink your position with that in mind.
jainphx, I’m with you. (also a Vietnam vet) I have yet to see one democrat accept responsibility for the slaughter of 3 to 5 million (maybe many more) in Southeast Asia as a result of their cut and run for political purposes in the 70’s. They are 100% responsible and the blood is on their hands, but they don’t seem to care. They are now working on the same tactic to get millions more slaughtered. They used the cut off of funding once and are ready to do it again. Anything to get them some preceived power and allow them to keep conning the American people is their standard. I keep hoping people will wake up and see that they are really traitors to the U.S. and to human life. Hanging would be too good for them. Maybe a slow feet first trip through a wood chipper would be about right. Saddam’s type of punishment for the dhimmi traitors.
Donna, what year is it? We are still in Europe, Japan and Korea. I think you can add Korsavo (sp), (Slick Willie’s unauthorized war) to the coutries we’re still in. Freedom for millions of people can’t be calculated in dollars as the left wing liberals want to do. It always comes down to the dollar when the leftie elites are involved. It’s not that they don’t want to spend more dollars, it’s that they’re so greedy they want the dollars given to them. I doubt that one of your welfare check has been delayed or cut by the war of liberation. If so, please tell me where and when.
I would say not the “do little Congress” but the “do damage Congress”. We have already seen that they don’t even know economics 101 by passing another minimum wage increase. What else? Socialist medicine is in there and many more socialist programs just salivating for funding.
6kings-you are spot on. the problem is that the descent people don’t make waves,Like the old adage of the squeaking wheel,we just sit back and let it happen. The Lord only knows what it will take to wake us to action,or if we will ever awake. It’s sad really because there are so many good people who just want to live in peace.
does anybody here even know what the concept of the “power of the purse” means? have any of you even read the Federalist Papers?
The power to declare war has always been entrusted to the Congress, not the President. There was a time when this nation respected the separation of powers, but you would rather turn us into a Middle-Eastern dictatorship than a Democracy. You would rather have one powerful branch of government.
Wait until a Democrat controls the Presidency, and then tell me you want a weak Congress.
If the Democratic congress, Pelosi, and Reid spent as much time legislating, as they do playing partisan politics and making nasty accusations, our country would be in good shape. They both say that from now on, after we get the 750 Billion, we’ll make sure there is oversight! … then, they attach a multi-billion dollar pork bill for Acorn, to the bailout bill. Pelosi and Reid should be reminded that only 15% of the country give them a favorable rating. Conditions would rapidly improve in America, if Pelosi and Reid would step down, so we could replace them with legislators who represent most of the people … not just 15%.
